LeagueApps Commits to Project Play 2024—Joining ESPN, MLB, NBA, NHL, and More
The four-year effort from The Aspen Institute focuses on making sport accessible to all youth.
In September 2019, LeagueApps was recognized by the Aspen Institute as a Project Play Champion for our FundPlay initiative, a commitment to allocate 1% of our revenue to impact 500,000 kids by the end of 2022. Project Play has been called the “conscience of youth sports” for its mission to develop, apply and share knowledge that helps build healthy communities through sports.
Beyond FundPlay, we’ve committed ourselves to embodying Project Play values in everything we do. Since 2019, we’ve grown our community of youth sports organizers and built out our thought leadership series. We’ve hosted town halls on accessibility, equity, and inclusion. We’ve connected club and travel teams with sports-based youth development organizations. We’ve hired our first head of community and impact: Benita Fitzgerald Mosley, the former CEO of Laureus and an Olympic gold medalist.
Now, we’re excited to announce our commitment to Project Play 2024, a new four-year effort from the Aspen Institute which unites 21 industry-leading organizations across sport, health and media as a platform for growing national sport participation and associated metrics among young people.
We will collaborate with this diverse set of organizations to develop shared goals and take actions to make sports accessible to all children, regardless of race, gender, zip code or ability. Project Play 2024 focuses on participation rates for kids through age 12, particularly low-income youth and girls.
Joining us as Project Play 2024 members are Augusta Sportswear Brands, DICK’S Sporting Goods Foundation, ESPN, the Major League Baseball (MLB) and Major League Baseball Players Association (MLBPA) Youth Development Foundation, the National Basketball Association (NBA), the National Hockey League (NHL), Nike and the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee (USOPC).
