LeagueApps was honored as one of its new advisors and friends David “The Admiral” Robinson stopped by LeagueApps NYC headquarters. David was accompanied by his son Corey and his business partner and fellow LeagueApps Advisor Dan Bassichis.

As you already know, LeagueApps has a bit of a crush and immense admiration for the San Antonio Spurs organization. Robinson might just be the most important contributor to creating the Spurs dynasty.

David Robinson is a 10-time NBA All-Star, the 1995 NBA MVP, a two-time NBA Champion (1999 and 2003), a two-time Olympic Gold Medal winner (1992, 1996), a two-time Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame inductee (2009 for his individual career, 2010 as a member of the 1992 United States men’s Olympic basketball team), and a two-time U.S. Olympic Hall of Fame inductee (2008 individually, 2009 as a member of the 1992 Olympic team). He is widely considered one of the greatest centers in both college and NBA history. To date, Robinson is the only player from Navy to play in the NBA. Check out David’s Hall of Fame speech to get a sense of his career.

The Admiral discussed lessons that he had learned throughout his illustrious playing career. Robinson talked about how he helped effectuate change in the culture within the San Antonio Spurs. He did this with the only way that he knew how. By being a leader.

We asked David how he defined leadership.

  • Create a team or company culture
  • Define goals
  • Recognize talent
  • Allow players to develop within your culture
  • Put teammates in a position to succeed

David’s method of leadership has continued after his NBA playing career concluded. David talked about his involvement in setting up the Carver Academy in San Antonio. The Carver school is a non profit private school that David founded.

The Admiral explained how faith is important to him. He likes to be involved in projects that do good. Whether it is setting up internship programs at his hotel in Houston for underprivileged kids to come and get a feel of the hospitality industry to his involvement in LeagueApps.

To support his philanthropic initiatives David has teamed up with Dan to create the Admiral Capital Group. Their portfolio consists of real estate and other private investments.

David is a big believer in the power of sports and the influence of youth sports organizers in creating positive experiences within communities. They are the unsung heroes that LeagueApps can help empower.

He shares the same passion as LeagueApps – Play for All, Play Forever.
