Giving Tuesday: How LeagueApps is Giving Back

Through FundPlay, Volunteering, Software Grants, and Ballin’ for Charity, LeagueApps strives everyday to give back to sports organizers

Giving Tuesday, often stylized as #GivingTuesday on social media, refers to the Tuesday following Thanksgiving (in the United States) as a way to kick off the charitable season.

The movement was started in 2012 as a response to the widely recognized shopping events Black Friday and Cyber Monday. The idea was to create an international day of giving for people to support the causes that mean the most to them.

One of the best ways to get involved with Giving Tuesday is within your community. At LeagueApps, we know that sports organizers, including the thousands of our partners, are already giving back to their communities by providing great sports experiences.

We’re inspired by community sports leaders like you. So, in honor of Giving Tuesday, we want to share how we’re giving back to sports organizers who give so much each and every day.

FundPlay

We’re focused on a mission here to make sports happen. We believe community leaders and the people that organize sports are the key to helping us fulfill that mission. One way to help enable sports organizers is through technology. The software and data of LeagueApps is built to help solve problems and create solutions focused around running sports organizations.

Another way to enable community sports leaders and organizers is through FundPlay. FundPlay is a LeagueApps initiative and the actionable manifestation of LeagueApps’ mission to “make sports happen.” The goal is to provide opportunities for memorable sports experiences to children who don’t have access to the best sports and educational resources.

Through FundPlay, LeagueApps and its employees provide software and cash grants to youth sports organizations in need, and volunteer their time to make a direct impact on the lives of youth sports participants. With the proceeds raised by our charity basketball tournament Ballin’ for Charity, we were able to donate over $20,000 in 2017 to worthy organizations as directed by LeagueApps employees. Some of those 30+ organizations include Positive Coaching Alliance, Rallycap Sports, Baseball for All, and the Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation.

Volunteering

FundPlay connects mission-aligned organizations with LeagueApps employees for volunteering. An example of this volunteering effort is with the philanthropic arm of one of our partners, Social Sports (NYC Social & Baltimore Social), called Volo City Kids.

Volo City Kids removes the barriers to participation for those who need the opportunity the most by providing free, organized play within the community. Children that participate in Volo City programs are given structure and organized play with coaching from professional employees, like the volunteers from LeagueApps.

Employees also volunteer at the annual December fundraiser for the Paul Rabil Foundation. Founded by LeagueApps investor Paul Rabil, the Paul Rabil Foundation is committed to helping children with learning differences by creating programs and partnerships through sport and scholarship. Over 70 scholarships have been donated through the foundation.

This holiday season, LeagueApps employees will also be heading up to Harlem to take part in some fun on the field as well as mentoring and tutoring in the classroom with the kids from Harlem Lacrosse.

Software Grants

Harlem Lacrosse was also the first recipient of Fundplay’s software grant program. With the software grant program, deserving 501(c)3 organizations will be given an opportunity to use the platform free of charge. Organizers will be able to leverage LeagueApps’ software and expertise in order to grow their organizations.

This is a program that LeagueApps plans to expand in 2018, knowing its technology is a key to making organizers’ lives easier, and making sports happen for kids.

Ballin for Charity

All of LeagueApps’ giving is made possible thanks to funds received during our annual 3-on-3 charity basketball tournament, Ballin’ for Charity. Ballin’ for Charity is our opportunity to lead an event that brings together hundreds of professionals in our communities. It allows us to activate and expand our own networks. Better yet, we do it through a sports event, just like our partners.

Our third annual tournament will be taking place on Saturday, March 24th, 2018. Every dollar raised from Ballin’ for Charity will go directly to helping make sports happen for youth sports organizations and participants in need.

We’re excited to give even more in 2018. So, if you know of a great philanthropic youth sports program or organization in your area that you think is worthy of a Fundplay donation, comment below! Or, you can contact us on our Fundplay page by clicking here.
