Some Important UI Improvements

Product News, Release Notes, Value of LeagueApps

We’re always making updates to the LeagueApps product based on feedback from our league partners. We intend to continuously improve the product and service, making it increasingly more effective at solving your problems.

There is one such update we’ll be making the week of May 30, which will include a number of improvements to the User Interface (UI) of public-facing sites. We wanted to give our existing partners the heads up so they are aware of these planned UI enhancements.

Overview

Things are going to look a LOT better! Nonetheless, there are a few things you should be aware of:

  • (1) The user flow for registration will NOT be changed. So, no need to worry about your members being confused.
  • (2) The layout of many pages will be much improved. See below for more information and previews.
  • (3) Small issues and bugs will be addressed by the updated pages.
  • (4) The theme editor and design customization tools will be greatly enhanced, giving league partners even more control over site design.

Preview New Page Layouts

We wanted to share some screenshots to give you an idea of how a few key page layouts are changing:

Registration Listings

Registration listings will soon look like this:

This new layout displays the key information in a more organized fashion, making it easier for registrants to decide which program to choose. Things like the program title, registration status, key dates, prices, schedule days, etc are all neatly presented for each program in the listing.

Program Homepage

Here is a preview of the new program home page (used by leagues, events, and tournaments):

Similar to the above preview of the registration listings, the new program homepage displays information in a much more organized fashion. The key details of the program are neatly structured at the top for quick glancing, while the custom description is still given the largest content area of the page. Also, the new logo and Facebook like features are positioned in the right column.

You’ll also notice that a summary list of existing participants is displayed in the right column. This feature is optional, and can be enabled/disabled for each program as desired.

Registration Listings Widget

The registration listings widget (used by many partners) will now support two different formats, in order to be flexible about how program information is presented. Our goal here is to allow league partners to have more control over how they promote and share their programs. Here is a summary of each format:

  • Verbose Format: This format will use a new expanded layout that matches the layout shown above in the registration listings preview.
  • Simple Format: This format will match the existing layout that is currently in use. This format is also the default version used. In other words, your existing registration listing widget will not change unless you make and approve the change yourself.

That’s about it. If you have any questions about this, or would like to walk through all the design changes before they go live, please let us know!

Team Captain Settings, Copy Programs, and More Great Updates

Product News, Release Notes

We pushed out another release this week! Here’s the rundown:

Team Captain Settings — You Decide What Captains Can Do

You can now control what your team captains can and cannot do. These settings are available at both the program-level, and also the team-level. You can control whether the captain can:

  • Edit the team name.
  • Invite new players by email.
  • Directly add new players.
  • Accept team player registrations directly from players.

You can manage these settings at the program-level under “Settings > Registration Options” in your program’s context menu, and at the team-level on the team page in the console.

Copy Programs

You can now copy an entire program in one click. See the copy button in the upper right of your program dashboard. When you copy an existing program, the following information is copied into a new program:

  • Details
  • Settings > Registration Options
  • Settings > Form Fields
  • Settings > Preferences

Things not copied include: discount codes, registered players, teams, games, and standings.

A Few More Improvements

Finally, we also made the following useful improvements:

  • Allow Standings Rules to accept decimal values (e.g., 0.5).
  • Fixed a bug in which early bird fees were not being properly applied to individual player invoices.
  • Updated the messaging tool filters to properly support “unpublished” programs.
  • Added a cool new sport: Whirlyball.

Hope these updates help!

What’s the Right Payment Processing Solution For Your League?

Feature Highlight, Product News

In order for an organization to accept online payments through LeagueApps it’s necessary to set up a payment solution. This allows registration revenue to flow right into your bank account!

LeagueApps has integrated with some of the most popular payment solutions to make sure you’re able to choose the right solution for your organization. Here is some information on each option including setup costs, transaction fees and integration steps. Please contact us at 1-800-257-3681 if you would like help to determine the most optimal setup for your organization.

Stripe

Stripe is the simplest and easiest payment solution to setup. You can be live and accepting payments within minutes! With Stripe there are no setup fees, no monthly fees, no card storage fees, no hidden costs: you only get charged when you earn money. Fees are 2.9% plus 30 cents per transaction.

There is no need to apply for merchant account or payment gateways with Stripe. All you need to do to setup an account is enter your bank information when creating your Stripe account. Payments will flow directly into your bank account once they are cleared. Every day, Stripe transfer the money that you charged seven days previously. Note that all funds are automatically transfered to your account (7 days from time of transaction).

Recommended Merchant Broker (Authorize.net Gateway)

If your organization does not currently have a payment processing solution then LeagueApps can connect you to a merchant broker who will take the time to understand your business and obtain the most attractive and affordable option. Our merchant brokerage partners offer discount prices and dedicated customer setup and service.

The LeagueApps recommended merchant brokers will find the most suitable merchant account for your organization. It will also set up an Authorize.net account at a discounted rate and with no setup fee. These accounts will be created simultaneously all in one process. There are no upfront costs and no long-term contracts.

If this sounds like an interesting option complete this short form. LeagueApps will connect you with a brokerage partner by phone or email and walk you through the application and account setup steps to integrate with your LeagueApps account.

Between the merchant account and gateway fees, you may get rates as low as 2% + 20 cents per transaction. There will also be about $20 in monthly fees. Prices will vary depending on your organization and merchant account partner.

To connect your Authorize.net payment gateway with LeagueApps, enter your API Login ID and Transaction Key in the Merchant Services section under the “Manage Account” dashboard.

Authorize.net Payment Gateway

For organizations with an existing online merchant account, Authorize.net can be used as a payment gateway that hooks into the LeagueApps platform.

The setup cost is $99 and monthly costs are $20 plus 10 cents per transaction. This is in addition to the merchant account fees from your existing provider.

You can create an account directly through the Authorize.net website. You’ll have to contact a service rep to connect your existing merchant account to your new Authorize.net payment gateway.

To then connect your Authorize.net payment gateway with LeagueApps, enter your API Login ID and Transaction Key in the Merchant Services section under the “Manage Account” dashboard.

Paypal Website Payments Advanced and Pro

Website Payments Advanced and Website Payments Pro are paypal products that are a combined merchant account and payment gateway. A Website Payments Pro account is an enhanced version of a standard paypal account so you may still need to apply for a WPP account.

The application process is straight-forward and can be completed online. If you don’t have a federal tax ID number you can still use your personal social security number to complete the application. Paypal will notify you within 2 business days of your organization’s status and will follow up with a phone call for confirmation. Once approved, your organization will be able to accept online payments.

Paypal has a monthly fee. Advanced is $5/month and Pro is $30/month. The only difference is that Pro allows an organization to also collect credit cards by phone through the Paypal Virtual Terminal. There is also a fee per transaction that is between 2.2 – 2.9% + 30 cents. The fee percentage is based on the previous month’s transaction volume. Here is more information on their pricing.

To connect your WPP account with LeagueApps, enter your API Username, API Password and Signature in the Merchant Services section under the “Manage Account” dashboard.

Good Stuff To Know

Amex Transactions
American Express transactions often have higher rates and even additional monthly fees. Please determine if your organization will accept American Express when you are creating your payment solution.

In the LeagueApps platform you can adjust your accepted credit cards in the Merchant Services section under the “Manage Account” dashboard.

Paypal – Website Payments Standard
LeagueApps doesn not currently support current Paypal’s Website Payments Standard service. This solution is unable to be integrated into your leagueapps website and rather simply links back to Paypal. In addition, there is no way to manage refunds or invoices through the LeagueApps system. For these reasons, we don’t offer this option at this time.

Switching Payment Solutions
Please contact LeagueApps if you would like to switch your payment solution. This is certainly doable and we’ll help you through the process to ensure there is a smooth transition to your new payment solution.

Tournaments & Events Released! Plus a few additional goodies.

Product News, Release Notes

You might have noticed some updates made to the product late last week. The biggest difference is that you can now create and manage two new types of programs in addition to Leagues: Tournaments and Events.

Below is an overview of everything included in this release.

Tournaments & Events

You can now create and manage Tournaments and Events in addition to Leagues. And, in the future, we’ll be adding support for additional program types. Overall, these features work just like the existing Leagues feature. Here are the main highlights:

Getting Started
You’ll notice that your “Manage” tab in the console now includes two new sub-options for Events and Tournaments, as shown below:

You’ll also notice the new enhanced button to “Create a Program”. Feel free to create Events for your upcoming socials, and Tournaments for the next Beer Pong shootout!

Update your Site Menu Items
For existing partners – in order to have your Events and/or Tournaments show up on your public-facing site, you’ll need to turn on your new menu items. We left these new menu items turned off by default, so that you could decide when to start using them.

To turn them on, go to “Content > Menu Items” in the console. You’ll see two new menu items, one for “Events” and one for “Tournaments”. Just enable them here, and they’ll automatically show up on your public site.

Grab your Registration Listing Widget
If you use widgets to integrate with your own remote website, you can grab a registration listing widget that is specific to program type. Check out “Content > Widgets”, and see the “Registration Listings” widget.

Related Features
There are a few more related features to point out here, which give you better control over the customization of your programs. See below:

  • We added some new fields that are specific to the different program types (e.g., Start Time was added for Events).
  • There is now a Logo option, so you can add an optional logo to your program homepage. See “Details > Logo Image” in your program’s context menu.
  • Notice the new “Preferences” sub-section under each program’s Settings tab (see “Settings > Preferences” in your program’s context menu). Here, you can enable/disable the Schedule, Standings and new Facebook Like button features. You can also customize the labels used for “Team”, “Free-Agent” and “Processing Fee”.

Next Steps
As we collect feedback, we will be expanding each of these features to include additional “program specific” features. So, please send any thoughts as you start using this!

A Few Administrative Features

In addition to the new Tournaments & Events features, we also added a few smaller yet frequently requested enhancements:

  • You can now “copy” a message from your “sent messages”. This is handy if you commonly resend the same or similar email message to your members.
  • We added a new setting so that you can control whether a team captain is allowed to invite players or not. This new setting is present in the Registration Options under Settings.
  • You can now update “notes” for each team, which are visible and editable only by admins (i.e., not captains). This feature is accessible in the console; see the program’s ‘teams listing’ page, and also on the ‘edit team’ page.

Bug Fixes

We also made a number of smaller tweaks and bug fixes, including at least the following:

  • Resolved an issue that sometimes popped up when attempting to reschedule a full day on the schedule.
  • The messaging feature had a glitch with the ‘send me a copy’ feature.
  • Fixed logic bug in standings tie-breaker rules.

That’s it for now. As always, we welcome your feedback!
